Sir,
If this is even partly true then I share your shock at having experienced it. In the tree years I lived in Edinburgh(1970-73) I recall two small ones, viz. the one in Forest Road and one not far away, the McCall-Barbour Bookshop. As for Mr Dickson, he wasn't around till a good 20-odd years later. The ;ast time I did business with him was back in 1999....he seemed to boast a wide range of titles.
As it is, it is a thousand pities that the world of Christian bookselling has been stained by this. In days when folk swear by the Internet - and there is scope for a modern compiler such as that of The Master Christian Library, which I purchased from his concern a good decade or more ago - the loss of even one book is to be lamented.

You said "Conclusion: Thieves are always unscrupulous, even if they call themselves Christian."

I was scammed out of $7,000 by a professed "Christian" about 4 years ago. You're right, thieves are always unscrupulous.

Thanks for pointing these resources out.

Just a thought – it might be more useful to have the links to Google Books website, rather than the PDF download – as that gives the option of reading the book online, downloading them in PDF or in EPUB format, or links to where these books can be bought (e.g. from Amazon).

Here are the links to the Google Books page for all the volumes.

The history of the English Baptists By Thomas Crosby

Thanks for visiting our website. We are glad that you found it interesting.

We cannot agree with you that all bible translations are good. Although we understand why some would want to adopt the "dynamic equivalence" approach to translation, because of the inherent difficulty of keeping the private interpretations of the translators out of the text we cannot approve of this methodology. We much prefer the literal translation approach.

The other difficulty is of course that to state that all Bibles are good, ignores that fact that the majority of modern Bibles use a completely different underlying text to the older Bibles like the KJV.

The issues surrounding Bible versions needs to be thought through very carefully. But having considered the issues over many years we have concluded that the "received text" or "ecclesiastical text" is the only text worthy of being used for a good bible translation. We know many who will strongly disagree with this conclusion, but we stand by our conclusion unshamedly!

Hi - great site you have here. I love reading sites about religion - they are so informative. Thank you for having this one. The internet can be a real blessing, even though some people don't realize that and use it badly. I am always interested in reading online about Christianity and your site is very inspiring. I don't have time to read everything right now, I found this site when looking for something else on Google, but I've bookmarked your homepage and will check back soon to see the latest news. What is your preferred translation of the Bible? I think they are all good, don't really have a favorite myself. I have a blog with daily Bible readings on it. Please bookmark it - it as at www.GotTB.com. I just redesigned the site with a new look and feel, please let me know what you think of the new layout. Have a good week. God's Peace!
